Resolution for a Thriving Tukwila For All

The following resolution was passed at the April 17 Delegates Meeting.
WHEREAS, there are 9,421 registered voters in the City of Tukwila and 36% of them live in union households;
WHEREAS, 56% of Tukwila residents identified as nonwhite in the 2012 census, and more than 80 languages are spoken in Tukwila schools;
WHEREAS, the Tukwila Education Association struck and won in 2018 for fair pay and better outcomes for their students;
WHEREAS, according to a 2014 study, there are 40,900 jobs in the City of Tukwila, and the annual taxable retail sales activity exceeds $1.9 billion;
WHEREAS, the 2019 MLK Labor prioritizes the recruitment and development of union members to elected office, be it therefore
RESOLVED, that MLK Labor will devote resources to surveying union members in Tukwila on their priorities and recruiting and electing union members and our progressive allies to the Tukwila School Board and Tukwila City Council in order to win labor standards, strong union contracts, good schools, and a high quality of life for all Tukwila families.
