The West Virginia Educator Strike: Lessons for Workers

Come out to this free community workshop to learn how a grassroots group of teachers in three counties in deep-red West Virginia we’re able to spark one of the largest strikes in modern labor history and win a 5% pay increase.
The case study will feature West Virginia music teacher and strike leader Nicole McCormick.

Lessons will include:

  • Prior to the strike, how did West Virginia educators try to make positive change? What were the results?
  • What was the context for the strike and how did it get started in 3 counties?
  • How did the strike expand statewide?
  • How did educators build and maintain unity?
  • What role did Facebook play in organizing the strike?

No July Delegates Meeting

Because of the Washington State Labor Council Convention this month, there will be no July delegates meeting. The next delegates meeting will be August 15 at 6 p.m.

South King Co. Fire and Rescue Levy Doorbell

Come out and support union firefighters at IAFF Local 2024 by asking union members to support the South King County Fire and Rescue Levy on the August Primary Ballot.

We’re meeting at Sacajawea Park in Federal Way at the upper picnic shelter off 16th Ave. The Canvas begins at 10 a.m. and there will be a BBQ at 1 p.m.

Job Opportunity: Lead Dispatcher for IATSE Local 15

IATSE Local 15 is looking for a qualified Lead Dispatcher to guide, support and coordinate the work flow among the Dispatch Team for its Hiring Hall.

This position has seasonal changes in workload. A minimum of 20 hours (2p-6P, Monday through Friday) and up to 40 hours per week in the office is required. Benefits are offered. Must be available weekends and evenings.
