Seattle Public Schools Listening Session for Working Families

June 24 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Seattle Public Schools (SPS) is developing a new five-year strategic plan and is seeking community feedback. The Strategic Plan is a framework from which decisions the Superintendent and School Board will make for the next five years. SPS will have big decisions to make in the coming years and working parents need to have their voices heard.

MLK Labor is partnering with SPS to host a community listening session designed for working families and union members. This is open to all Seattle union members, but especially those with school-aged children.

This forum is an opportunity to give input to make Seattle a great place to learn, work, and be in community together. The forum will have a short presentation by SPS staff and a facilitated discussion with members of the School Board.

We hope that union members will deliver a message that shows our values for strong public schools and a district that works with the community, educators, and students:

  • Great schools provide a high-quality education for all students.
  • Great schools collaborate with educators and the school community as they make decisions.
  • Great schools recruit, hire, and retain diverse educators that reflect the identities of their students. It’s important to build a healthy and safe working environment that values the expertise and experience of educators, the people working most closely with students and their families.
