Resolution on King County District Court Bargaining

WHEREAS, on June 30th, 2022, the represented employees of King County District Court voted 115 to 1 to reject a proposed agreement based on inadequate wage increases compared to local court comparables.
WHEREAS, non-represented staff was given substantial wage increases based on a management-sponsored study by the District Court which used flawed and inaccurate information.
WHEREAS, collective bargaining with the Union King County Office of Labor Relations and District Court minimized the scope of work represented employees do on a day-to-day basis while withholding the information on the non-represented wage increases until the 11th hour of negotiations.
WHEREAS, represented staff of King County District Court request to be treated fairly, equitably, and impartially when it comes to wages, comparatively to non-represented staff.
WHEREAS, King County Courts are using this wage disparity to engage in union-busting in regard to represented staff.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that MLK Labor will send a letter to the King County Executive, Council, and Office of Labor Relations, in support of represented staff and requesting that King County participate in fair and impartial bargaining with the representatives of the unionized District Court employees.
BE IT FURTHER BE RESOLVED that MLK Labor will send letters to endorsed District Court Judges, notifying them of the matter at hand.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that MLK Labor will demand that King County not engage in union-busting tactics, as to preserve the relationship between the County and Labor Unions.
