Resolution to Sponsor APALA’s 17th Biennial National Convention

WHEREAS, the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA) is the first and only national organization founded by working people to serve as the bridge between the broader labor movement and the AANHPI community, and;
WHEREAS, APALA celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2022, born out of a struggle to gain recognition and resources from the AFL-CIO, to organize AANHPI workers and build solidarity with our communities, to give voice representation to AANHPI workers’ issues, and;
WHEREAS, for the first time APALA’s national convention will be held at the UNITE HERE Local 8 represented Westin Hotel in Seattle, Washington, from August 3 to 6, and;
WHEREAS, APALA and its members locally, across the country, and from around the world are coming together to share knowledge and strategies to uplift AANHPI workers and strengthen the labor movement, and;
WHEREAS, the convention provides a place for workers, community activists, and allies to engage with one another while developing skills to build collective power for workers, and;
WHEREAS, this is an opportunity for our local labor movement to engage with leaders from across the globe to continue the organizing efforts for a stronger labor movement with a racial justice and collective liberation lens.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, MLK Labor donates $1000, and;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, MLK Labor encourages its affiliates to send delegates, become sponsors, purchase ads in the program booklet, and/or table at the celebration event.
