MLK Labor Statement on the 2024 Election
Despite federal election results that will undoubtedly lead to renewed attacks on our rights to organize, bodily autonomy and the human rights of our LGBTQ siblings, we’re proud that King County voters supported candidates and issues endorsed by organized labor.
Seattle voters overwhelmingly passed the Transportation Levy which will improve our deteriorating roads and bridges while creating 11,000 good-paying union jobs. We sent union-backed, labor-champion Alexis Mercedes Rinck to the Seattle City Council. Statewide, voters rejected anti-worker ballot measures and stood with candidates who have committed to protecting our union rights.
Unions do not have permanent parties or candidates — we have permanent issues. Our mission remains unchanged: to build power for working people and eradicate bigotry in our workplaces and communities.
