Resolution for increased resources to support the pre apprenticeship program at Rainier Beach High School from the November 2025 Seattle Families, Education Preschool and Promise Levy

February 20, 2025

WHEREAS, The Seattle Education Association recognizes the Seattle Building Trade’s leadership in creating the first School Community Workforce Agreement which leads the way in creating more equitable pathways for Seattle Public Schools students to get good union jobs in the building trades.

WHEREAS, Creating a successful and sustainable program requires intentional and consistent staffing, which has not been funded and allocated,  leaving the responsibility for connecting students to the program to educators who have elected to take on the role on top of their existing responsibilities.

WHEREAS, Additional support including tutoring resources is needed to ensure student success in the program.

WHEREAS, These programs are critical tools for redressing long-standing inequalities in access to post-secondary opportunities and good union jobs, by helping students complete the Career and Technical Education (CTE) graduation pathway and gain job-ready skills

WHEREAS, Union jobs in the building trades lead to high-paying careers and these pathways can create the bridge for our students, and mutually benefit our siblings in these fields.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,  MLK Labor will advocate for including enhanced staffing resources provided by SEA members in the Families, Education, Preschool and Promise Levy to increase the capacity of the pre-apprenticeship program at Rainier Beach High School.
