Resolution to Defend Federal Workers and the Public Postal Service

WHEREAS, since President Donald Trump’s inauguration, United States federal employees have been “traumatized” as Office of Management and Budget Director Russel Vought has advocated through the actions of the “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE) with attacks on collective bargaining rights, massive layoffs and mass firings throughout the federal government;
WHEREAS, on February 21, 2025 the Washington Post reported that President Trump is planning to issue an executive order firing the entire Postal Board of Governors, abolishing the Postal Regulatory Commission and removing the entire United States Postal Service Executive Team to put the Postal Service under the Commerce Department;
WHEREAS. The grassroots cross-union coalition called the “Federal Unionist Network” has mobilized to Save Public Services provided for the American Public;
WHEREAS, the National Association of Letter Carriers and American Postal Workers Union are still in contract negotiations and have launched the “Fight Like Hell” campaign to defend the Public Postal Service
WHEREAS, the Martin Luther King County Labor Council approved the Resolutions on Replacing Postmaster General DeJoy, Support the Letter Carriers Contract Rally, and Solidarity with Postal Workers;
WHEREAS, On March 7, the Department of Homeland Security announced it was stripping collective bargaining rights from 47,000 Transportation Security Officers who show up every day to ensure the safety of the traveling public. Over 1,000 of those officers are in the American Federation of Government Employees Local 1121 here in King County.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Martin Luther King County Labor Council endorses and will mobilize our fellow union members to support the Federal Unionist Network, promote attendance to the Federal Building Friday rallies at the downtown Federal Building every Friday on 11:30 AM to 1:30PM to #SaveOurServices;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Martin Luther King County Labor Council promote the “Fight Like Hell” Rally to defend the Postal Service on March 23, 2025 at 1 pm at the Westwood Post Office, making use of emails, text messages, social media platforms, flyers, and other available tools to advertise these events.
